EdisonReport has learned that an independent third party has confirm that Citizen has cheated. February 9, Japan Citizen Watch Company released a survey report to the outside world, acknowledged that its subsidiaries tampered with product testing data and parts of the origin. Read the report here.
The report says that some components–non LED components, that claim to be made in Japan were actually made in China. It also casts doubt on the validity of their LM 80 data. This is a big deal. Citizen is the largest supplier of COB and if Citizen changed their LM 80, what happens to product that is already in the field? What liability will the Luminaire manufacturers have who used these chips? What about DLC and the utility rebates? Can utilities claw back some of their rebates.
