The lighting industry, like many other industries, has long struggled with retaining talent, especially working parents. The Women in Lighting + Design (WILD) Parenting Resource Group (PRG+) is conducting a survey to assess the current state of support for working parents in the lighting industry.
This is not the first time WILD has conducted such a survey. Four years ago, the organization surveyed women in the lighting community about their experiences balancing work and family life. The results were not surprising. The majority of women who left the industry did so because they found it difficult to balance their work and family responsibilities. Many of these women were mothers.
Fast forward to the present, and the pandemic has exposed just how little support there is for working parents and caretakers. With schools and daycares closed, many working parents were forced to juggle their jobs and their children’s education and care.
The WILD PRG+ survey aims to shed light on the current state of support for working parents in the lighting industry. The survey is open to all employees and employers in the industry and will cover a range of topics, including parity in leadership roles, parental leave and related benefits, family support structures, and initiatives or programs for working parents.
Please fill out this anonymous survey, share with others in the lighting industry, and come to the presentation at LightFair in NYC to see the results.
