Jim Williams is establishing a new rep agency based in Nashville. He will represent Cooper Lighting Solutions. Watch the video here:
In the video, Jim shares his goals as he prepares to re-enter the agency business. He plans to launch a new agency on 1 January, 2025, in partnership with Cooper Lighting Solutions. Since his retirement at the end of last year, Jim has been consulting with various manufacturers. His relationship with Cooper, once competitors, has now evolved into a collaboration.
Jim’s new agency will focus on Middle and East Tennessee. He and his wife, Ashley Williams, have a home in the Nashville area, one of the fastest-growing markets in the country. Over the years, Jim has built many connections in the city. He emphasizes that his aim is not to be the largest agent in the market but the best. Recently, he has taken time for self-reflection, thinking about what he would do differently. His involvement with two tech startups gave him a fresh perspective.
“I don’t want to be a line collector,” Jim explains. “Do I really need six downlight companies?” He prefers a smaller, more focused line card, where he can offer greater value to each brand. This approach allows him to be more meaningful to his partners rather than spreading himself too thin.
Jim also acknowledges the market challenges and the impatience some brands have shown during soft conditions. However, he is committed to representing fewer lines with more dedication. He aims to be efficient, deliver outstanding service, and simplify business interactions. Importantly, he has no plans to stock local inventory, as his focus is on providing expert service and support.
