Super Lighting Sues Luxrite and Pvtech Over T8 LED Tube Patents

Jiaxing Super Lighting Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., along with its U.S. affiliate Obert, Inc., has filed a patent lawsuit against All Star Lighting Supplies, Inc. (better known as Luxrite) and Chinese manufacturer Xiamen Pvtech Corporation.

The complaint was filed on 30 June in the U.S. District Court for New Jersey. It accuses both companies of willfully infringing ten U.S. patents related to LED tube lamps.

Decades of R&D and Patents

Super Lighting has invested in LED tube development since the 1990s. Today, it operates globally with more than 2,100 employees and holds over 600 patents.

The disputed products are T8 universal retrofit tubes, which are marketed as direct replacements for fluorescent lamps. These tubes are sold under the Luxrite brand and manufactured by Pvtech.

From Amazon Takedowns to LightFair Talks

The dispute has been building for more than a year. Super Lighting first spotted the allegedly infringing products on Amazon in April 2023.

The company sent repeated notifications to Luxrite. In response, Luxrite denied infringement and submitted counterclaims to Amazon. This triggered Amazon’s APEX (Patent Evaluation Express) process.

While this back-and-forth continued, Super Lighting tried a different approach. At LightFair 2023, the company’s sales team met Luxrite representatives in person. They discussed potential collaboration and offered to supply licensed LED tubes. To show good faith, Super Lighting even asked Amazon to reinstate some Luxrite listings it had helped remove.

Attempts to Resolve Outside of Court

After LightFair, Super Lighting followed up by email. They asked Luxrite to pick one of two options:

  1. Participate in the APEX process to prove non-infringement

  2. Purchase licensed products

Luxrite expressed interest in doing business but allegedly never placed an order.

From mid-2023 to early 2025, Super Lighting continued to press its case. The company sent claim charts explaining how the products infringed on patents on tube design and power supply modules.

Despite this, Luxrite continued to sell the same models. Some of these were products Luxrite had previously said were discontinued. They remained available on Amazon and at major U.S. retailers like Home Depot, Walmart, and Lowe’s.

Final Breakdown and Lawsuit Filing

In December 2024, Pvtech proposed a cross-license agreement. Super Lighting declined. By spring 2025, talks had stalled.

This led Super Lighting to file suit, calling the infringement “deliberate and egregious.” The company is seeking:

  • A permanent injunction

  • Treble damages

  • Attorneys’ fees
