Optics are a critical part of the lighting system, especially when it comes to efficiency and precision beam control. Even the most efficient light sources would be rendered useless without high-quality optics. They enable the designer to extract light from the source and precisely direct it through key vertical and horizontal planes. Optics can mitigate light loss and ensure that the pre-defined light distribution for specific applications and standards are maintained.
But the best optics just don’t provide optimum light output, they are efficient and offer as many light distribution variants as possible for greater design flexibility. Additionally, the technology and style of optics should harmonise with the other components in the luminaire design – for example with LED modules according to the specifications of Zhaga Book 7, a current standard in LED lighting technology, or with components that enable quick and secure installation in the luminaire housing. Altogether you have a complex mix of criteria (from technical performance, standard conformity, production practicality and aesthetic design) which are all essential to making a quality optic for lighting.
BJB recently launched their new single-row optics (35.301 Series) which are incredibly slim, elegant and versatile. They fulfill the above-mentioned criteria perfectly and can be used in various lighting designs for linear or area lighting applications. The optics are highly compatible with standard LED modules with 30 mm width and smaller. Whether in the workplace, in movement zones in the office, for general and hallway lighting purposes in shops, or in corridors and staircases in industrial or administrative buildings – BJB 35.301 Series optics can be used perfectly in a wide variety of environments.
They are engineered on a meticulously developed design and are produced with great precision from high-quality optical grade plastic. The optics are highly efficient (up to 92%) and come in different light distribution angles of 30, 60 and 90 degrees as well as single and double asymmetric versions. These options enable luminaire manufacturers to meet numerous lighting requirements all from a uniform luminaire design.
One of the special features for this new optic series is the optimized system of attachment in the luminaire. With just a “click”, snap-in pins fix the optics into the mounting holes of the luminaire housing, thereby reducing labour installation work to an absolute minimum. For this purpose, the appropriate panel thicknesses have to be between 0.5 and 1.0 mm.
With an overall height of just 11 mm and width of 40 mm, the 35.301 Series single-row optics have a compact and elegant form-factor, which provide luminaire manufacturers with greater design flexibility. And thanks to a unique tongue-and-groove design feature in the optic, you can connect multiple optics together seamlessly to achieve a smooth, homogeneous light pattern. In this way it is possible to assemble LED modules ranging in length from 280 to 1,450 mm (5 ft). For the front and back ends, there is one end-cap accessory, which can be used for either end. And if required, BJB will also furnish this with a company- or brand-specific logo.
