Cooper Lighting Solutions Announces Winners of 43rd Annual SOURCE Awards

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (August 7, 2020)– Cooper Lighting Solutions announced today the winners of its 43rdannual SOURCE Awards, a lighting design competition dedicated to celebrating the next generation of lighting professionals and building the pipeline of industry talent. In a virtual awards presentation, seven university students from around the country were recognized for their creation of conceptual projects that show the understanding, knowledge and functionality of lighting as a primary element in design.

The winning projects were judged on creativity and the selection and application of Cooper Lighting Solutions’ lighting and controls products. Specifically, the conceptual lighting design projects were judged on the blending of aesthetics and creative achievement, with additional considerations of energy efficiency, controls integration, best use of natural light and customization.

The winners of the 2020 SOURCE Awards are as follows:
  • Winner – Stefanie Voinea, Ringling College of Art and Design

    Project Name: Mini Metropolis

  • Honorable Mention – Melissa Santos Romo, University of Texas at San Antonio

    Project Name: Hidden Spa

  • Honorable Mention – Tak Ying Chan, Pratt Institute

    Project Name: In-Wave Bar

    Instructor: Michael Zuckerman

  • Honorable Mention – Yin Weng, Ringling College of Art and Design

    Project Name: Cyber Hub

    Instructor: Seongwoo Nam

  • Honorable Mention – Emma Burkhart, Appalachian State University

    Project Name: Tower Restaurant

    Instructor: Jeanne Mercer-Ballard

  • Award of Recognition – Chloe Harlan, Ringling College of Art and Design

    Project Name: The House of Sage

    Instructor: Seongwoo Nam

  • Award of Recognition – Jillian DePinto, Appalachian State University

    Project Name: “Burdock,” a Turkish Restaurant

    Instructors: Jeanne Mercer-Ballard, Carol Hall

Winners received a crystal trophy, local and national recognition and an invitation to attend a lighting seminar hosted by the SOURCE, Cooper Lighting Solutions’ premier lighting and educational center located in Peachtree City, Georgia. The grand prize winner, Stefanie Voinea, received a $2,000 award and the honorable mention winners each received a $500 award.

Past entry applications have included commercial offices, retail stores, galleries, museums, libraries, banks, restaurants, convention centers, entertainment facilities, residences, and more. Judging was conducted by an independent panel of lighting and design professionals and a representative from the SOURCE.
