Espen Technology Drives LED Downlight Cost Down, Efficiency Up

Ultron LED Drivers Improve System Life, Efficacy, and Dimming of LED Downlights

Ultron_AD2.jpgSanta Fe Springs, California (September 15, 2012) –  Espen Technology’s newly-released LED drivers increase the adoption of LED in low-wattage applications and make significant advancements in LED power supply technology.  The Ultron LED driver line improves upon standard LED drivers on the market today by reducing cost, increasing efficiency, and extending luminaire life.  Performance upgrades in LED drivers can significantly improve overall luminaire performance, resulting in added features and greater performance for consumers on the market.  Additionally, the increased efficiency of Espen’s LED drivers will help luminaires qualify for ENERGY STAR.

Ultron LED drivers come in 3 series: dedicated 120V, universal voltage (120V-277), and continuous dimming.  All 3 series will come in two model sets: 12W maximum and 19W maximum.  The wattage for each model is scalable, enabling flexibility in fixture design.  The drivers can be specified with different drive currents ranging from 200 mA to 1050 mA, allowing manufacturers to optimize LED output and efficiency.  To accommodate downlight design flexibility, the LED drivers can be ordered in 3 different cases: a metal nano-square, a plastic nano-ellipse, or a plastic micro-round case.  The TRIAC dimming driver features continuous dimming below 15% and is designed to be compatible with a wide range of standard incandescent dimmers.  Designed and manufactured with longevity in mind, the power supply comes equipped with a 5-year warranty, allowing luminaire manufacturers to offer a longer system warranty.

“We dedicated tremendous focus on improving overall luminaire performance when designing these LED drivers.  I believe we’ve delivered a successful solution by achieving greater efficiency in circuitry design and manufacturing,” says Richard Zhang, President of Espen Technology.

Efficient design and economies of scale in manufacturing has allowed Espen Technology to make this series of LED power supply cost-effective without any compromise in quality.  Combined with the downward trend in LED chip prices, the cost-effectiveness of Ultron LED drivers will likely increase the adoption of LED technology in downlight, pendant, and other low wattage applications.  As utility companies are increasing rebate incentives for LED downlight retrofits, this high-efficiency, cost-effective driver is anticipated to make the switch to LED more economical for consumers.
