Mike Barr Becomes the 93rd President of the New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society
Peter Jacobson Becomes the Section’s Vice President
Effective July 1, 2019, Mike Barr, MIES, a senior account executive at Lutron Electronics Inc., was installed as the 93rd President of the New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section (IESNYC). For the past two years, Barr has served as the IESNYC’s vice president. In addition, he has chaired the Finance Committee, the Nominations and Awards Committee, co-chaired the Sponsorship Committee, coordinates the IESNYC Thesis Awards, and has been a long-standing member of the IESNYC Board of Managers. He was worked at Lutron Electronics for almost 40 years with the last 15 years in the New York Metro Area working closely with the design community.
“It’s a humbling honor to be given the opportunity to lead the largest section of the IES,” says Barr. “Its rich history can be intimidating, but only serves as a statement of the great work we can do as a section.”
Peter Jacobson, MIES, becomes the Section’s Vice President. He is Con Edison’s lighting specialist and liaison to the lighting industry, a role he has held since 1991. A long-standing member of the IESNYC Board of Managers, Jacobson has also served on many IESNYC committees and he is a member of the IES Progress Report Committee.
Barr succeeds Caleb McKenzie, LC, IALDA, MIES, and a principal at US Lighting Consultants, who served for two terms. McKenzie remains on the Section’s Board of Managers, will chair the Nominations and Awards Committee and the IESNYC Scholarship Committee, and will continue to serve on other IESNYC committees.
Barr, Jacobson, and the Section’s Treasurer, Brad Telias, MIES, specification sales, Enterprise Lighting Sales, comprise the IESNYC Executive Committee.

IESNYC (www.iesnyc.org) is the New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society. The IESNYC is a volunteer professional membership organization whose members share a mutual appreciation for lighting. Members are lighting designers, consultants, lighting manufacturers, lighting representatives, electrical distributors and allied professionals. The IESNYC is dedicated to promoting the art and science of illumination engineering to its members, professionals in allied fields, and the public through events, programs and educational series, social outreach, and networking opportunities.
