Prolume and Blue Iris Labs Team Up on Characterizing Circadian Lighting

Randolph, VT – October 20, 2021 – Visit Prolume’s booth (#1662) at LightFair International October 27-29, 2021 to experience BIOdynamic lighting and the measurement of those circadian effects by Blue Iris Labs’ Speck, the first commercially available, low-cost, battery-powered, cloud-connected spectrometer.

Lighting which entrains circadian rhythms must take into account light delivered to the eye.   Spaces previously lit to standards for horizontal illumination need to be evaluated for vertical illumination, or, in short, the light that reaches the eye.  Typically illumination measurements required expensive equipment that was used only during initial commissioning.  The Speck allows for continuous real-time measurements specifically in the vertical plane paramount to emerging circadian metrics.

Erik Page, CEO of Blue Iris Labs, stated, “It has been a pleasure to work with LEDdynamics and its subsidiary Prolume. The team’s expertise in component manufacturing and commitment to circadian lighting technology meant we could move quickly to refine our Speck product. We developed the Speck as a measurement tool to help better understand how light impacts Alzheimer’s care patients. With the help of LEDdynamics, we have able to refine and scale production of the Speck so that this tool can now be applied to any light and health application.”

“The Speck sensor will enable the industry to verify deployments for circadian capability” said Kendra Paschall, VP Business Development for LEDdynamics/Prolume.  “We intend to use Speck sensors in Prolume lighting projects to demonstrate the circadian metrics achievable with our PERFEKTLight technology.  Our best projects typically combine know how in manufacturing, lighting and controls with strong partners who are leaders in their fields.  The team at Blue Iris Labs has opened the door to continuously quantify deployed lighting.”

The changing requirements of building interiors and the need for lighting to react to such changes ca only be achieved with BIOdynamic lighting strategies, which must be verified in situ.  Pairing PERFEKTLight and Speck sensors will create well managed deployments that enable designers to fully design, understand, and verify the effects of the building’s occupants.
