Position: NY Metro Factory Commercial Sales Agent

A rapidly growing lighting fixture company with offices, distributions centers and trade-only showrooms in major market centers in the U.S. is currently seeking a person with lighting sales experience to fill the position of Factory Commercial Sales Agent reporting to the President and working out of our NYC office. 

This Metro NY sales team includes Lighting Showroom Reps, Commercial Agents and Hospitality Sales.  Some of our customers are lighting specifiers, architects, engineers, interior designers, lighting showrooms, electrical distributors, lighting dealers and internet retailers.  We also supply many retail chains through our network of National Account customers. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish business contacts for fixture sales with specifiers of commercial lighting such as lighting designers, architects, engineers, interior designers, etc.
  • Drive sales of existing product lines through established client base
  • Secure products into specifications for commercial & residential projects
  • Travel in the New York City area to introduce the company and its products to clients and markets
  • Provide product and technical support to the designer during the design process
  • Provide technical assistance to customers in such forms as product training and demonstrations, and lunch and learn sessions
  • Proactively cold call on previous and existing customers to increase sales revenue
  • Work with our internal quotations team to develop complete project quotations
  • Be the advocate/voice of the customer to the other internal functions of internal people responsible for delivering the results required by the customer
  • You will systematically analyze and report sales results, expectations, market, competition and trends
  • Partner with inside staff to ensure all sales activities are handled efficiently
  • Keep management informed of any problems, competitor issues or other factors affecting the assigned territory with recommendations for improvements/changes
  • Assume additional related responsibilities as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the lighting business and in-depth knowledge of products and applications. (NYC market experience is a plus)
  • A proven track record in customer relationship building with lighting specifiers
  • Proven ability and track records of closing deals
  • Experience necessary to accelerate sales penetration in various target markets
  • Ability to read blueprints, design project layouts as well as IES files
  • Ability to write up a project specification by determining fixture types and placement
  • Demonstrate communications skills in both oral presentation and written work
  • Must be customer centric
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills and problem solving abilities
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and work well under deadlines
  • Be a Team Player
  • BS or similar degree or comparable experience
  • Strong computer skills within a PC environment
  • Must be willing to travel as needed
  • Lighting/LED/LEED/or Controls Certification is highly desirable

Compensation will be draw plus expenses with sales bonus based on achieving sales targets.
