If you’ve seen anything that had something to do with the 60s, you know what a lava lamp is. The psychedelic lighting accessory, which many can claim enchanced their first ‘out of body’ experience is now clearly middle-aged, having turned fifty.
The original design of the lava lamp was created by British inventor Edward Craven-Walker, who was also a World War II pilot. He is said to have been inspired by a liquid-filled egg timer, which he then resolved to turn into a lighting accessory. The lava lamp saw huge success in the drug-fuelled haziness of 60s Britain.
