There’s an old joke that goes: How Many PhD’s Does It Take To Turn On A Lightbulb? The punchline: Four – one to do it and three to co-author the paper. That may not be fair, or true. But it is the case that it takes a number of highly intelligent people to undertake the necessary work at the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (LRC).
Here’s why: lighting is not about simple illumination any more. In fact, it never was. We just didn’t know it.
