The long-awaited overhaul of Detroit’s antiquated street lighting system will happen faster in neighborhoods and involve fixing and retaining more light fixtures under a revised plan approved Wednesday night by the Public Lighting Authority of Detroit.
Under the new $160 million plan, the relamping of all neighborhoods in the city with LED lights is scheduled to happen within 18 months, rather than three years, and finish by the third quarter of 2015. However, it will still take a full three years to fix the city’s thoroughfare street lighting system.
