LEDucation 8–Day 2

Your humble editor had a great time at LEDucation 8 show this year and  I am delighted that the weather in New York was relatively mild.   While there were many exhibits and great things to learn, below are companies/exhibits that were interesting:

  • LF Illumination displayed the FF220, a linear integrated ceiling solution with a mechanical track—as opposed to an electrical track.  The beauty of this product is its simplicity.   Electrical load is calculated on an electrical track based on length, so if a track only has one light, the load might be calculated for ten lights.  The load for a mechanical track is based on the wattage of the each fixture.    In addition, the FF220 is designed in such a way as to allow the contractor to cut the length at the job site if needed, as the track fits on a typical drop saw.
  • Amerlux Exterior showed an LED Light Engine encapsulated in a sealed optic designed for a post top application.  This can be used in new luminaries or retrofits.  It’s available on 41 watts and 57 watts which replaces a MH 175.
  • USAI showed a luminaire that can change from 2200K to 6000K using 0 to 10v. USAI has a patent on its algorithm and electronics that control the chips.  USAI emphasized that the technology is not RBGW.
  • EYE displayed a post top product.  LEDioc™ brand LED Upgrade lamps are designed for simple and easy field retrofit from an HID to LED light source in post-top and pendant luminaire.  EYE just completed a large job in Boston with the LEDioc.
  • Tokistar’s product line is designed to closely replicate the color of incandescent.  As the product dims the CCT changes from 2700K to 2000K.  The LEDs dimmed exactly as I would expect from incandescent.
  • EldoLED showed me the difference between dimming to 1% and dimming to 0%.  It’s HUGE!  We discussed the importance of human factors in lighting.  Dimming to 0% is more natural to our brain.
  • Juno was also demonstrating warm dimming. EdisonReport readers may recall Juno won the LIGHTFAIR Innovation Award two years ago for this technology.  Today, Juno can dim from 3000K to 1800K while staying on the black body curve; the CRI never drops below 90.
  • Coloronix focuses on coloful architectural lighting and demonstrated how color mixing works.  They are a division of EEMA lighting. Their products operate on 120v
