NEMA to DOLED: "Respect the Consumer’s Right to Decide…"

EdisonReport has obtained NEMA’s response to the U.S. Department of LED’s (DOLED) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for General Service Lamps which effectively bans CFL and Halogen lamps.  EdisonReport is told that if the DOLED’s rule stands, about 500 to 800 GE and OSRAM jobs will be lost in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky.

EdisonReport has a different take on the matter.  Pennsylvania, which has the word SYLVANIA in its name,  has 20 electoral college votes, Ohio has 18 and Kentucky 8. Those three states make up 46 votes out of the 270 needed to win the Presidency.  How smart is it for DOLED to push to kill jobs during this election year?

NEMA’s position is that the market is already moving towards LED at a very fast pace and the market should be allowed to dictate the speed of LED adoption.   Read the full response here

In addition, we have the letter from NEMA’s VP of Government Relations, Kyle Pitsor to the DOLED. Read that letter here.
