EdisonReport received the following statement received from LEDVANCE this morning:
The global lighting market continues to move toward solid state lighting, resulting in greater demand for LED products and diminished demand for the traditional lighting products made at the facilities located in Exeter, New Hampshire in the US and Drummondville, Québec in Canada. This has shifted the traditional lighting business from a growth to a declining market.
As a result, effective January 11, 2018, LEDVANCE has announced the closing of its Exeter and Drummondville facilities, to be completed no later than December 2018. In Drummondville, production and associated support equipment for some T12 product will be transferred to our Versailles, Kentucky factory. The balance of the Drummondville operation will be shut down. The Exeter operation will be shut down, with portions of the Equipment Development and R&D groups being relocated to other sites.
Approximately 135 employees will be impacted.
The decision to close these plants is a difficult but necessary step in order to focus resources on developing a comprehensive solid state lighting portfolio that best meets the needs of the market and helps ensure future growth. The company is proud of the contributions these plants and their employees have made to the lighting industry and our customers, and is committed to doing what it can to assist employees during this transition period.
