The mysterious path of Reggiani Lighting in 2022 seems to be coming to an unfortunate end. On April 6, 2022, Reggiani Lighting USA, Inc filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Chapter 7 calls for a total liquidation of assets as opposed to Chapter 11 which allows for a restructuring plan. This essentially means the end of Reggiani Lighting in the US. Established in 1957 in Italy, it made its North American debut in the 1980s and became known as a high-quality specification product. It was a member of the Lighting Industry Resource Council (LIRC) with the IALD, which is, unfortunately, one of the creditors named in the bankruptcy filing.
Word started to get out in the industry in January of this year that calls and emails were going unanswered. On 3 FEB, EdisonReport posted an article, “How Active is Reggiani in the U. S. Market.” In February, they announced that operations in the U.S. were going to close. Now the final chapter is unfolding with this filing.
The list of creditors is long and represents practically all the segments of the lighting industry itself: suppliers, manufacturers, transport, local carriers, contractors, unions, distributors, engineering firms, agents, federal agencies, and industry associations. Creditors come from over 27 states and 9 countries. Named creditors include Acuity Brands Lighting, Lutron Electronics, 3 dozen lighting agencies, as well as a few art galleries and even Aston Martin of Beverly Hills.
Documents filed on April 6th indicate estimated assets between $100,000 – $500,000, with estimated liabilities between $1-10 million. Pack Law from Miami, Fl is the attorney representing Reggiani Lighting USA Inc.
This is the beginning of the final chapter of a once leading specification grade manufacturer. It is sad and disappointing on all counts. And, we haven’t mentioned the Reggiani staff that have lost their incomes.
