Sonepar is set to acquire Butler’s Electric Supply, a family-owned business based in Wilmington, North Carolina that has been operating since 1948. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by the end of May and will see Butler’s Electric branch location become part of Sonepar’s Capital Electric brand. This acquisition presents an opportunity for Sonepar to expand its business offerings to small residential and commercial contractors along the coastal region of North Carolina.
This is not the first acquisition by Sonepar in recent times, as the company has been expanding its presence in North America through strategic acquisitions. In 2022, Sonepar made a record-breaking 20 acquisitions, including generalist and specialist companies such as industry, HVAC, utilities, and photovoltaic, adding 183 new branches and 2,100 new associates to its portfolio. This expansion strengthens Sonepar’s presence in North America and adds to its strategic acquisitions. While the trend towards consolidation increases competition for smaller distributors, it also presents opportunities for them to partner with larger organizations and leverage their resources.
