Danville, VA – Sterling Lighting’s renowned annual summit has once again positioned itself as the go-to event for landscape and architectural lighting designers. With a lineup of influential speakers, including pioneers in lighting design and industry trailblazers, this event is a significant highlight for outdoor lighting professionals worldwide.

DANVILLE, VA, July 29, 2023 – From July 25-28, Sterling Lighting hosted its flagship event – the third annual Danville Summit – in the picturesque city of Danville, Virginia. Attendees, which included top-tier lighting designers and business professionals, embarked on a deep dive into the world of design and business expansion.

The summit featured expert-led seminars at Averett University and presented a unique two-night lighting design challenge at the sprawling Atkinson Farms, showcasing over 800 acres of pristine landscapes and historic architecture.

Beyond just another event, the Sterling Lighting Danville Summit presented groundbreaking workshops on landscape lighting techniques, digital marketing in the lighting sector, actionable business growth strategies, and the latest technological innovations in lighting design.

The speaker lineup was nothing short of stellar. Eminent personalities such as award-winning lighting designer Eleftheria Deko and American lighting pioneer Janet Lennox Moyer graced the stage, offering their unparalleled expertise. This event wasn’t just a showcase; it was a collaborative platform. Attendees engaged in roundtable discussions, networking sessions, and teamed up for the design challenge, creating a unified community of lighting enthusiasts.

Prominent lighting pioneers, Eleftheria Deko of Greece and Janet Lennox Moyer of the USA, took the stage and also contributed as judges during the Design Challenge.  The dialogue was moderated by EdisonReport’s own, Randy Reid.

The summit opened with a grand dinner at Atkinson Farms on July 25. Co-owners of Sterling Lighting, Patrick Harders and Damien Sanchez, alongside the entire staff, set the tone with a warm welcome, live music, and a preview of soon-to-be-released lighting fixtures.

Among the summit highlights was a keynote by Chad E. Foster, shedding light on his journey from losing his sight in college to graduating from Harvard Business School and developing cutting-edge software for the visually impaired.

The event culminated with a dramatic nighttime design challenge at Atkinson Farms. Teams, under mentor guidance, were given specific areas of the property to illuminate. Their design objective: presenting Atkinson Farms under a transformative light.

Team accolades were as follows:

  • Best Feature Focus: Team One
  • Best Functional Lighting: Team Two
  • Best Overall Scene, Best Natural Scene, and Best Structural Scene: Team Three.

Eleftheria Deko and Jim “The Rookie” Morris, offered deep insights into lighting design and personal growth. Morris, a former MLB pitcher, shared his life journey which inspired the popular Disney movie, “The Rookie.”

The summit concluded with heartfelt remarks by Patrick Harders, Damien Sanchez, and the event’s emcee, Sharon Delaney McCloud.
