Signify, Leviton, McWong, Lightly Among Winners of DOE’s L-Prize Prototype Phase

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced six winners in Phase Two of the DOE Lighting Prize (L-Prize®) competition, aimed at advancing innovative lighting solutions for commercial buildings. The L-Prize offers a total prize pool of $12 million, designed to encourage groundbreaking innovations in next-generation lighting.

In Phase Two, the winners in two categories, Luminaires and Connected Systems, share a prize pool of $2 million.

Notable winners in the Luminaire Track include:

  • “Generation Flex: Light Without Compromise” by Signify Innovation, which receives $375,000. 
  • “Low-Carbon Biodegradable Luminaire” by Lightly, which also receives $375,000.
  • “Helios HPR-LP160” by Grid Interactive Efficient Building Alliance (GiEBA), receiving $250,000.

In the Connected Systems Track, the winners are:

  • “Interact Next-Gen: Light the Way to Building Goals” by Signify Innovation, awarded $375,000. 
  • “Autani Insights 4REAL, with Sensing by Leviton” by Autani and Leviton, also awarded $375,000.
  • “Bluetooth® Mesh Wireless Lighting Control System” by McWong International, receiving $250,000.

The L-Prize Phase Two aims to foster innovation in energy efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability in lighting for commercial spaces. These prototypes represent groundbreaking solutions and exemplify the competition’s focus on diversity and inclusion in the lighting industry.

Winners are encouraged to move on to the third and final phase, the Manufacturing and Installation Phase, where they can further develop their lighting systems. The L-Prize underscores its commitment to addressing climate change, boosting American manufacturing, and promoting diversity and inclusion in the lighting industry.
