We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Director of North America Sales with a strong background in the specification lighting industry to join our leadership team. This position requires strategic thinking, creativity, and a results-oriented approach to drive and accelerate sales growth of our product, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with sales partners and specifiers.  They will be a tactical leader who will support, develop, and steer our North American team through the ever changing architectural and façade lighting market.

*This role is based out of our Hunter Industries Headquarters located in San Marcos, California. 

Essential Functions:

  • Develops North American short- and long-term strategic plans that support profitable growth, increase market share, and reduce financial risk and liability. Applies corporate financial knowledge and market intelligence in overseeing maximum revenue and profitability.
  • Applies vision and expertise to develop and implement objectives, programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives to achieve the company’s business goals.
  • Manages all aspects of the sales process from the development and execution of business plans to the establishment of key distribution partners (including contractual agreements), creation of demand with End Users and Specifiers, through to after sales service.
  • Develops and maintains a pipeline of potential opportunities, via CRM, to support sales targets. Aims to exceed sales targets.
  • Oversees and drives the day-to-day operations of the sales team as well as the agency network. Travels frequently to support the Sales Team and key Agencies and Specifier relationships.  Develops the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities of personnel to meet the needs of the Customer and achieve company goals.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the sales support team (Customer Services, Quotes, Inside Sales & Logistics). Develops the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities of personnel to meet the needs of the department and achieve company goals.
  • Manages and is responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management and other personnel activities for the North American team.
  • Develops an operating budget plan for the North America division that supports the strategic plan. Works with Manager to update the company’s sales forecasts based upon company goals and market performance. 
  • Monitors competitor products and activity, company’s competitive position in the market and any industry related opportunities and provides feedback as necessary.
  • Ensures company representation at industry trade shows. Participates in and facilitates group meetings both onsite and at various Trade events.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with the Brisbane office and the Global Manufacturing facilities.

Education Required/Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, Architecture or equivalent education and experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • Fifteen+ years of progressive experience in sales within the lighting industry, with demonstrated experience developing and implementing a strategic plan.
  • Seven+ years of senior management experience with significant personnel leadership responsibility.

  • Requires in-depth knowledge in the areas of negotiating, selling and sales techniques, contracting, promotions and customer service. Requires the ability to quickly analyze rapidly changing circumstances and provide sound strategic and tactical sales advice. Requires excellent inter-personal and relationship building skills.
  • Business background, with demonstrated experience in budget administration and analyzing financial statements and maximizing profit margins. Computer literate, with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database programs. Requires professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective presentation and public speaking skills. Skilled in the areas of coaching, counseling, team building and managing performance to achieve organizational effectiveness.  Strong interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to facilitate, manage and resolve conflict.  Ability to enhance relationships and negotiate contracts.
  • Requires commitment and ability to achieve excellence in leadership with the ability to lead and serve as a mentor to staff. Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.  Awareness of cultural diversity when interacting with employees and customers.
  • Requires the ability to assess risks and opportunities. Requires the ability to successfully lead and accomplish strategic initiatives and achieve sales targets.  Requires analytical abilities sufficient to systematically appraise and verify the effectiveness of sales programs and business partner relationships.  Ability to initiate and manage multiple process improvements simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%. Must have or be able to obtain a passport.
