2024 Service Awards

The Illuminating Engineering Society of New York City (IESNYC) proudly acknowledges and honors outstanding individuals through its esteemed 2024 Service Awards program. These awards recognize the dedication, service, and significant contributions of individuals who have tirelessly worked to advance the mission and success of the IESNYC and the lighting community at large. On June 20th, during the Lumen Gala, the IESNYC recognized four members who make our section shine.

IES Section Meritorious Service Award
Mike Barr, Lutron
Presented to a member in recognition of outstanding service to the Section, principally of a non-technical nature, that has significantly furthered the purpose of the Society continuously over 15 years in various programs and activities.

Mike Barr is an exceptional leader, a role model, and a mentor to the IESNYC community and beyond. Over the decades, many individuals and committees have benefited from his thoughtful, objective, and professional counsel. He has guided our section to higher and higher levels of success. During the pandemic, his business acumen preserved the section’s financial stability, allowing us to do more and give more. Mike has advocated enthusiastically for equity in lighting and is always eager to learn and grow himself.

IESNYC Brilliance Award
Megan Carroll, Lighting Services, Inc.
Presented by the IESNYC in recognition of dedication and contribution to the NYC Lighting Community.

Megan Carroll is the “Shining Light” in the NYC Community. As the chair of the steering committee for NYControlled, Megan has been instrumental in bringing a brand-new show into being and has weathered all the storms that go with that endeavor with grace, humor, and grit. As immediate past president of the NYC Section, she has been and continues to be a mentor, friend, and inspiration to current and future leaders.

Catherine Bontempo, Harborlight Design
Presented by the IESNYC in special recognition of distinguished service to the Section.

Catherine Bontempo, over the past three decades, has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to enhance the IESNYC brand and give the New York City Section its unique identity. Her leadership and advocacy have assured the success of the section’s educational and business goals. Her contributions to NYControlled were invaluable, leading to one of the most successful inaugural programs of the IESNYC.

Brigid Hardiman, Available Light
Presented by the IESNYC in special recognition of distinguished service to the Section.

Brigid Hardiman receives this special recognition for her continuous and thoughtful leadership in developing and advancing diversity and equity in the lighting industry. Her work makes the New York City Section more sensitive, respectful, and conscientious as individuals and as a whole society.
