Michael Bailey, Rest in Peace
It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Deco Lighting announces the sudden passing of Michael Bailey. For the past six years, Michael was Director of Product Development and Engineering for Deco and led the development of many of Deco’s iconic architectural lighting offerings.Michael was a visionary in the lighting industry. With a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Michael always seemed to find the perfect intersection of beauty, performance, and simplicity of installation in everything he worked on. His accomplishments are prodigious.
Before his time with Deco, he had been Head of Design for firms within the consumer products and medical devices industries, media design company StandardVision, and other lighting companies such as Axis Lighting, DMF Lighting, and Lumenpulse Lighting. “Michael Bailey was far more than a talented industrial designer and engineer; he was like a brother to me and others at Deco,” shared Sam Sinai, co-founder of Deco Lighting. “He worked tirelessly to do whatever was needed to make things right and get things done and would offer his help to anybody that needed it both professionally and on a personal level.

He was a mentor to many people inside and outside of Deco, and while he may no longer be physically present at Deco, his memory will live on in everything that we do.”His best friend and fellow designer Matt Kennedy continued saying, “Michael was a brother to me. We were the best of friends for over 20 years. He was energized by discovery and enjoying life. Michael was endlessly generous with his time, always thoughtful, and attentive to detail. He mentored me throughout my professional career, as he did with many others. Our hearts break with his passing, and he will be deeply missed.”

The world not only lost an incredibly talented design professional, but we also lost a great person and human being who was generous to all who knew him and whose lives he touched, even if only for a short moment.

Michael had an unparalleled love for his family, friends, and employees. Please join us in offering sincerest condolences to Michael’s family. We have all suffered a terrible loss and will miss him more than words can express.
