Zumtobel Lighting, Inc, a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art, high end luminaires and lighting systems has an opening in our Fair Lawn, NJ facility for a senior mechanical engineer with experience in the design and development of new, LED-based lighting products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage new product development design efforts from specification through production
- Design best-in-class luminaires based on state-of-the-art LED technology
- Generate 3D models and drawings using Pro-E
- Lead multi-functional project teams including product management; mechanical, electrical, optical and industrial engineering; production planning; purchasing; machine shop; assembly; and shipping
- Evaluate, modify and submit EU designed products for agency approval
- Work with industrial engineering and production team to provide technical support and advise on process and standard operating procedure development
- Coordinate implementation with our LEAN operations team
- Will be required to travel to our Highland, NY facility 1-2 times per week
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- BS, Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited university
- At least 5 years of hands-on product design experience in lighting or electrical products;
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, extruded aluminum and plastic, drawing, spinning, die casting, and injection molded plastics;
- Proficient in Pro Engineer or similar 3D CAD system
- Knowledge of and experience designing to North American agency approval standards (UL and CSA)
- Must have excellent project management skills and ability to work independently
- Thermal analysis and modeling a plus
