Amerlux Earns Award for Protecting Environment through Superior Energy Efficiency
Fairfield, New Jersey – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Amerlux as a 2013 ENERGY STAR® Award for Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion winner for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by sponsoring significant consumer education efforts promoting superior energy-efficient products. Amerlux, a global leader in task and architectural lighting, released a total of 500 ENERGY STAR qualified models in 2012 (an increase of 316 percent over the prior year), and a total sales increase of ENERGY STAR products by 233 percent, with more than 50 percent of its LED offering qualifying for the prestigious EPA program.
“Last year we launched a series of a dozen-plus road shows and trade events to educate more than 5,000 distributors, retailers and lighting designers about our rebate-earning, Energy Star qualified fixtures,” said Amerlux CEO and President Chuck Campagna. “After receiving Five Next Generation Luminaire (NGL) Awards last year, we are honored to receive this Energy Star Award for Excellence. It’s a major achievement for our company.”
Amerlux is an ENERGY STAR partner being honored for promoting products and programs that meet its guidelines for energy efficiency. “We believe that the ultimate story behind Energy Star is energy savings,” explained Alex Guerrero, Director of Research & Development for Amerlux. “That said, if customers buy our luminaires to save money on energy costs but find that the quality of the light is inferior, they might go back to the older lighting solution to regain that quality. By setting the bar of high quality lighting in conjunction with energy savings, we achieve our goal now and in the long term, year after year.”
Mr. Guerrero spearheaded a community outreach program that teaches children at local New Jersey high schools about the ENERGY STAR Program and LED Lighting, as well as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and how to dispose them safely.
Over the last 20 years, with help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. “By creatively promoting Energy Star products, Amerlux has led the way in helping consumers easily find energy-efficient products in the marketplace,” said Bob Perciasepe, Acting Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “Amerlux’s innovative programs make it easier for Americans to save money and protect the environment.”
The 2013 Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award is given to a variety of organizations in recognition of their efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings. Award winners are selected from the nearly 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. AMERLUX’s accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2013.
