Intense Lighting Recognized Once More in the Highly Prestigious Next Generation Luminaires (NGL)™ Design Competition

Company continues its four-year winning streak with the new ORBIS LED Track Luminaire

(ANAHEIM, CA – March 21, 2013) – Intense Lighting, Inc. a leader in providing high quality, specification grade lighting products and solutions, is proud to announce that it is a 2013 recognized winner in the Next Generation Luminaire (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Competition. The NGL recognized 28 commercial LED indoor lighting products for excellence on Wednesday at the LEDucation 7 lighting conference in New York City. This year’s winner from Intense Lighting is the ORBIS LED Track Luminaire. The ORBIS LED is an expansion of Intense Lighting’s award-winning MB track line but offers a cleaner, more sophisticated design aesthetic. This latest win reflects four consecutive years showcasing Intense Lighting products as winners of the NGL Awards.

The NGL Awards are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the International Association of Lighting Designers, and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications. Every year since the awards program was launched in 2008, a small group of prestigious industry leaders are nominated to be part of the judging panel that looks at performance, production readiness, practicality and ease of serviceability for each product submission.  The judges also care about suitability and quality, not just energy-efficiency. The 2013 NGL indoor winners show significant color improvement compared to previous years, and efficacies continue to climb – with this year’s winners averaging 75 lm/W, vs. 65 lm/W last year and 37 lm/W in 2008. “Recognition by the NGL judges is not given lightly,” said DOE Solid-State Lighting Program Manager Jim Brodrick. “So winning speaks volumes about a product.”

This year, 156 products were submitted in the Indoor Competition. But due to stringent judging rules, only 99 were actually qualified to be judged. Of those 99 submitted, just 28 were recognized as winners by the award panel. This distinction means the panel would highly recommend these 28 products to other specifiers.

“Winning at the NGL Awards for our ORBIS LED track luminaire is quite an honor”, says Allan Gray, President of Intense Lighting. “This win marks an unprecedented four years in a row for us and we couldn’t be more proud. The new ORBIS LED offers clean design aesthetics combined with excellent efficiency and optical performance.  The NGL awards validate our ongoing commitment at Intense Lighting to create the most innovative, solutions-based lighting products possible.”
