LEDVANCE Update: PA Plant to be Realigned; KY Plant to Close

Internal LEDVANCE Statement:

In the past two years, LEDVANCE has been evolving its manufacturing footprint and transforming from a manufacturer predominantly of traditional lamps to a dynamic and globally active lighting company with one of the most comprehensive LED portfolios for general lighting, including fixtures.  LEDVANCE LLC is announcing changes to its manufacturing structure that take advantage of the expertise of its parent company MLS, a global leader in solid state lighting production, and strengthen its competitiveness in the US and Canada.  This will help meet customer needs more effectively and support future success.

The St. Marys, Pennsylvania facility will be realigned into a stand-alone, U.S. manufacturing subsidiary of MLS.  MLS’ manufacturing expertise will further strengthen the St. Marys plant, which has been in the spotlight after it was upgraded to manufacture SYLVANIA LED lamps. This industry-exclusive “American Way of Light” LED portfolio is lighting up homes and businesses across the nation.

The decrease in demand for traditional lighting products continues to accelerate though, resulting in excess manufacturing capacity at the Versailles Glass & Lamp manufacturing plant in Kentucky.  All lamp and glass production will be phased out by the end of September 2019, and products and components manufactured in Versailles will be outsourced.  Approximately 260 employees will be impacted by this difficult decision, and we will begin working immediately to support them through this transition.  This will not impact the Midwest Distribution Center and R&D Lab in Versailles, which employ approximately 100 employees.

The SYLVANIA product brand has stood for quality and reliability in the lighting industry for over a century, and this will continue as LEDVANCE enters the next chapter of its story in the United States and Canada.
