Senior Quality Engineer — OttLite

The Senior Quality Engineer will be part of OttLite’s growing Operations Team. We are looking for a strong engineer with solid technical expertise, who enjoys working in a fast paced and rapidly growing environment where taking initiative and collaborating cross-functionally are critical for success. The hands-on engineer will have a variety of responsibilities in new product development, international compliance, Asia manufacturing and quality control for our retail-oriented product family of LED desk lamps and other luminaires. OttLite is a rapidly growing company focusing on health, wellness, and EPA compliant sanitization products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of design principles and quality engineering to positively influence new product development efforts, including those for design verification, validation, and specification development.
  • Provide quality, mechanical, and electrical engineering expertise for new product development programs in the areas of design oversite, regulatory compliance, prototype, and production product inspections, writing instructions and product labeling.
  • Collaborate with product management to develop design requirements and support design freeze, design verification and validation testing
  • Establish certification testing requirements for global testing by various countries
  • Lead test method development and validation activities for new designs
  • Lead failure investigations for product failures, work with customer service to resolve issues, continue follow-up with factory to implement changes/improvements and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze and track return goods data and trends, and provide recommendations where needed
  • Collaborate with Asia manufacturing and operations team to ensure successful transfer and launch of robust products, ready factories for production audits
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams and key stakeholders representing the organization on projects
  • Lead weekly Asia QC team meetings to discuss current issues, product safety testing, factory audits and track product inspections
  • Interfaces with sales and other departments within the company and suppliers on quality related issues
  • Develop and approve product installation instructions
  • Read and operate solid model CAD files for the purpose of reviewing luminaires during the new product development process – Solidworks
  • Performs other quality-related duties as assigned by management
  • Register products for California CEC Title 20, DOE, FCC
  • Update UL/ETL certifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Scientific field with a minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in Quality Engineering, new product development, and/or Manufacturing; OR a master’s degree in Engineering or Scientific field with a minimum of four (4) years of combined experience in Quality Engineering, new product development, and/or Manufacturing
  • Engineering or new product development experience in the lighting industry
  • Engineering experience within a highly regulated industry with a compliance background
  • Experience with Microsoft products including Excel, PowerPoint, Word

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with design, engineering, and compliance of LED luminaires
  • Familiarity with international retail and quality approval processes including CAP, factory audits, GMP audits
  • Familiarity with global retail portals and compliance
  • Lighting industry experience including UL153 Portable Luminaire requirements
  • Familiarity with luminaire testing protocols; FCC, ROHS, LM-79, Prop 65
  • Experience working with or at Asia manufacturing facilities is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with EPA UV devices a plus
  • Quality engineering experience in new product development from initial concept to commercialization
  • Project management experience, ability to manage your own time and projects
  • Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and evaluate deliverables to established strategic goals
  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Quality System Lead Auditor, Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), or related quality/regulatory certifications a plus
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds for occasional work requirements
