Senior Design Engineer–Lighting Services, Inc

Lighting Services, Inc. is turnkey provider of design/build lighting retrofit solutions with a fifteen year history of saving energy while improving the built environment.  We are looking for an experienced lighting designer to lead our growing design team and ensure that we are providing the proper solution as technology continues to advance. 

While we are headquartered in Twinsburg Ohio, we also have offices in Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Raleigh and will provide for relocation expenses.

Overview

The Senior Design Engineer leads the design development of lighting energy savings projects for a variety of end users as well as larger energy service companies.  End users include industrial, distribution, government, corporate real estate, healthcare, schools and higher education.  

This position is also responsible for providing specific functional and technical expertise, including estimating, technical and financial analysis, presentation assistance, etc.

Responsibilities

• Complete detailed development of project including solution design and cost estimation
• Use, review and improve in-house tools to accurately estimate construction costs with design and project management team members

• Establish productive, professional relationships with key customer and partner company personnel

Field Survey / Investment Grade Audit

• Perform on-site survey of existing lighting system including controls
• Perform interviews with customer personnel to determine customer needs that shape design decisions

• Gather and analyze energy consumption and operational savings data

Design

• Design for indoor and outdoor lighting systems including control systems
• Lead technology evaluation and product selection process
• Comply with NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE/IES standards and local codes
• Perform life cycle cost analysis including energy, maintenance and HVAC costs

• Use design software to model lighting systems (Visual, AGI32)

Sales

• Assist sales team with developing and producing proposals, technical reports, and presentations
• Assist in the presentation of findings and customer options, and respond to customer question 

Project Implementation

• Guide project transition/pre-construction meetings

• Participate in customer meetings during implementation phase as needed

Administrative

• Lead in the development of standards, templates, protocols, processes, and report formats for the engineering team

• Stay up to date on current and developing technology, regulations, standards/codes and design practices including professional certifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• High-energy, drive, ambition, self-starter
• Candidate must have strong knowledge of lighting design, lighting controls and lighting system analysis

• Strong analytical and organizational capabilities
• Team orientation; proactive communication skills working with colleagues and clients
• Above average computer aptitude including proficiency with Excel
• Strong technical writing, including writing reports, papers, specifications and guides

Education and Experience:

• 5+ years progressive work experience involving lighting design
• Bachelor’s degree (Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degree preferred)
• Valid Driver’s License issued by state of residence and in good standing
• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required
• May be required to pass security clearance investigation
