Proof of Concept Engineer-Kenall

Proof of Concept Engineers are responsible for completing designs and delivering them to Sustaining Engineering.  The Proof of Concept team is one of three working in a cascade design process beginning with Research & Development followed by Proof of Concept and Sustaining Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Create drawings for production release, ensure designs pass all requirements
  • Develop drawings and specifications sheets
  • Log requests using Portfolio Project Management System
  • Design and develop complimentary fixtures for existing product lines
  • Modify existing products per customer requirements or based on continuous improvement
  • Partner with the Testing and Compliance to develop product samples

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Mechanical Engineering, preferred
  • 2+ years practical experience, preferred
  • Proficient using 3D CAD solid modeling software; SolidWorks and/or Inventor, preferred
  • Familiarity with UL 1598 lighting standards
  • Knowledge of basic lighting; lamp operation, ballast operation, ballast circuits, related component and accessories
  • Working knowledge of photometric reports and layouts
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication as well as polycarbonate, acrylic and aluminum
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including injection molding, die-casting, extrusion and thermoforming
  • Able to design/build prototypes
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Resourceful, highly organized while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Professional in appearance and attitude and able to work with customers, vendors and colleagues on all levels
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly dependable and self-motivated and directed
  • Flexible, able to work within a team environment; managing multiple projects and tasks at the same time
