Surf’s Up! LIGHTFAIR Pre show Report

No drones.jpgThis will likely be your best LIGHTFAIR or one of your best LIGHTFAIR experiences ever.  Here is why:

1. There are some great products. Check out our Top 10 MUST SEE List. We strongly encourage our audience to not race through the show, but spend the appropriate times in the booth learning about these great products.

2.  The booths are bigger, better and more advanced than ever before.  It is as if the industry got together and decided to upgrade their booth.  Companies that used to have 20 x 20, now have 30 x 30 and they are first class.  We walked the show during set up yesterday and today and we have never seen this many high caliber booths ever at LIGHTFAIR. Even the 10 x 10’s  are elegant!  The San Diego theme seems to have transcended many booths.  We counted three that had surf boards.

3.  The venue and weather are perfect.  Normally, conventions centers don’t pump any A/C during set up. In San Diego, it is irrelevant as the weather is absolutely perfect.  Most people will stay in hotels in the Gas Lamp district so everyone is together and we experienced some wonderful bar time both Saturday and Sunday.

4. Uber is great in San Diego and they will pick you up at the airport.  Your humlbe editor has had four Uber’s so far and never waited more than 3 minutes.

Other notes of interest:

  • Without exception, we hear great things about the move-in.  Everyone received their equipment on time and the union has been great.  Recall that I also work in the industry and my guys are very pleased with Feeman’s support.  No B.S.
  • Elly McCloud is attending the show and we ran into her late Sunday.  We are not quite sure of Elly’s role, but her Linked In account still shows her as LIGHTFAIR’s Managing Director, Conference, Events & Attendee Relations.
  • The trained eye will notice that the main convention center is lit with T8’s, we believe they are still fluorescent. Most bathrooms have T5 LED.
  • Leave your drone at home. LIGHTFAIR has signs up banning all drones.  Darn!
