Hubbell Combines Type I thru V Optics in ArcheType X

Chris Bailey, the Director of Business Development, Product Innovation, gave me a tour of the Hubbell booth at LIGHTFAIR and we saw some fascinating products. Hubbell is entering into Healthcare Lighting in a big way with 12 new fixtures being launched.  Bailey demonstrated a patient light that was very pleasing to the eye and offered the patient an amber light for night.

Baily also spoke a bit about art therapy in hospitals.   Hubbell demonstrated a beautiful outdoor seen using a graphic panel that is also included in their Healthcare collection. The image of tulips was striking and capturing, and as we continued talking I kept being drawn back to that panel. It was almost hypnotic.

Hubbell ArcheType X Site Area.jpgHubbell demonstrated a unique outdoor fixture, which they call a ArcheType X, that refers to its optic system.  Instead of Type I thru V, the ArcheType X is a unique adjustable type of optic system. The theory is that every space is different and using standard optics in non-standard spaces wastes energy and lumens.   Each ArcheType X luminaire has adjustable emitters that are pre-aimed at the factory.  Before shipping, each luminaire is powered up and, using machine vision technology, Hubbell double-checks the aiming process.  With this product, the designer can upload the drawing as usual, add the IES files, and create a layout using exact photon numbers for the entire area.  It is a very clever and precise product.

When I toured the Hubbell booth, I saw many big names and old friends, coupled with bright fresh faces. Hubbell is clearly in a growth mode and has been investing in people and products.  Your humble editor would not be surprised to see an acquisition or two later this year.
