Join the DLFNY for a presentation and backstage tour of the storied and recently restored Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.
Upon its inception in 1929, the Loew’s Kings Theatre was one of the most exquisite theatres in the nation. Originally designed by architectural masters Rapp & Rapp with interior design by Harold W. Rambusch, the theatre was truly an ornate spectacle for the masses. In 2013, Martinez + Johnson Architecture, based in Washington, D.C., was selected as the architectural firm for the ineffable restoration project. Today, the $95 million project features an authentic restoration of the 1929 design. Along with a recreation of the historic lighting fixtures, the original plaster and painting schemes have been restored, and vintage carpet and seating have been reproduced. The restoration of this former movie palace marks the rebirth of an historic venue into a state-of-the-art performance space. |

The DLFNY Annual Holiday party
The DLFNY is proud to support Phoscope’s Recreo De Noche (RDN) pilot project with a $10,000 grant.
Days are short at the tropics, and PhoScope is launching ?Recreo de Noche? in Puerto Rico to rapidly deploy solar lighting in community playgrounds for use after sunset. This initiative will serve the immediate recreational and social needs of many Puerto Ricans who are deprived of electrical power and until longer-term utility and infrastructure projects are developed and implemented.
?Recreo de Noche? is a replicable model for the procurement of a set of solar lighting products to community groups who will distribute and install them in collaboration with teams of volunteers. These will assist the process with public discussions and participatory workshops on light and lighting.
PhoScope partnered with Lighting in Action (LIA) and Concepteurs Lumière Sans Frontières (LSF) to implement a pilot project in San Juan with the Corporation del Proyecto ENLACE del Caño Martín Peña (ENLACE) and the local communities in the fall of 2018. The model will then be replicated throughout Puerto Rico.
