2022 Employment Index: Hiring Is in Full Swing!

It’s that time of the year! LightFair has returned to Vegas, and as part of Show Daily 2022 EdisonReport is doing an analysis on employment in our industry. The purpose of this index is to provide insight into the growth and influx of professionals in our industry, and what that might suggest about the health of our industry, given that the industry has seen many challenges in recent years, from the pandemic to supply chain issues and rising costs. The index focuses on Career Ads featured on EdisonReport across three different time periods to provide a robust comparison on the pulse of employment throughout 2021 and 2022.

YTD (Jan-May)
The first time period is a YTD comparison up to the latest complete month of this year, May. 2022 YTD saw a 21% increase in career ads over 2021 YTD. Each month saw an increase in 2022, particularly February and March, with the exception of April and May. Interestingly, this is the same percentage increase from last year’s index comparing 2020-2021, indicating a steady and consistent level of growth even with the emerging challenges and disruptions the industry has seen.

June 2020 – May 2021 vs. June 2021 – May 2022
The second period is a full year comparison, June 2020 – May 2021 vs. June 2021 – May 2022. 2022 saw a nearly 12% increase compared to 2021 over a full year. Out of the 12 months, 8 months saw an increase, with the only significant drop-off occurring in December.

This employment index indicates an increasing need by companies for more personnel to continue operating at higher levels and driving growth to meet demand. Our industry has continued to improve its ability to adapt to unpredictable global situations since COVID-19, and the increase in employment gives reason for optimism that it will continue to do so in the future.
