Howard and I were colleagues and friends, with ideas to pursue, often disagreements to debate, and usually supporters when in office and roles.
I knew Howard in the early activities in 1970s. His attendance in early committee activities provided everyone with total different ideas – design competition awards for rules and regulations and judge choices, developing education workshops for teaching teachers of lighting, calculation formula for energy solutions to solve, design recommendations for developing content for various application standards – and society staff issues and leadership choices. He offered contributions in so many different areas! A valuable choice occurred when Howard became the very first IES Board position as IES VP Design and Application – a significant role of handling committee work with a group of managers to report application committees status to the VP. And of Howard’s next step was then to become IES President.
Howard has always stayed a faithful member of IES and involved in various organizations For several years, time often slipped away with less opportunities to be in constant touch. But I will always remember, for about 50 years, stories shared with and about Howard – serious successes, important events, challenging arguments, won and lost causes, funny and tough moments. They will all still be thought about!
Howard I will always remember you as a long time friend.
Rita
