“THIS IS NOT A RACE AGAINST THE MACHINES. IF WE RACE AGAINST THEM, WE LOSE. THIS IS A RACE WITH THE MACHINES. YOU’LL BE PAID IN THE FUTURE BASED ON HOW WELL YOU WORK WITH ROBOTS.”
KEVIN KELLY – AUTHOR OF THE INEVITABLE
Disruption is coming. It is inevitable. The world is going through a renaissance and new technology powered tools are changing the way we work, the way we create and the way we interact with the world.
How can the professional lighting community embrace this new era and use it to elevate the role of light and lighting design? This is a question we want we explore at a new event in November in Mexico City. Disruptia is a future focussed festival of disruption – join us to find out about what could happen next and how we could shape it.
Disruption can be defined as radical change to an existing industry or market due to technological innovation – do you remember when the LED arrived? In Spanish, the word for disruption is “ruptura” — see what we did there? 🙂 — and this event is one that goes way beyond lighting.
Light Collective are a creative consultancy with experience in creating memorable and game changing events in the lighting industry and expert in bringing together communities around light. We have been flattered to be called ‘Disrupters’ ourselves a few times in the past and whilst we wouldn’t use it to describe ourselves, hope that it means that people thought we were innovators and the intention is that this event follows the same track.
So why is it in Mexico? Not only is Mexico one of our most favourite and inspiring places in the world but Light Collective is now expanding and opening a new LATAM branch with former collaborator Magali Mendez. Magali is based in Mexico City and has worked globally as an architect and lighting designer with her own company Saas Lighting in Mexico. Light Collective and Magali have previously worked on some innovative events in Mexico and Disruptia is the first official Light Collective LATAM venture.
Happening on 30th November, Disruptia is a one day event and features a program that includes keynote presentations from key disruptors inside and outside the lighting industry, creating opportunities to learn and develop and a think tank session as we always get better together: bringing industry and designers together to discuss ideas, problems, solutions and ambitions. There will obviously also be some social interaction too. We know that some of the best ideas are created over a drink and a chat and we hope to inspire creativity and connections. The event will be held at the ITESM Campus in Sante Fe.
The line up includes inspiring contributors from the worlds of lighting design, product design, visual arts, architecture, neuro-architecture, theatre, material innovation, immersive experiences, artificial intelligence, web 3.0, blockchain, metaverse and manufacturing. The program includes the following: James Simpson from Copper Candle, Christopher Bauder from White Void, Juan Ferrari from Hoare Lea and Tapio Rosenius from LDCOL who will be contributing virtual presentations and Juan Carlos Baumgartner from Space, Kai Diederichsen from Luz en Arquitectura , Karina Lozano from Arquitectura, Entorno, Energía, Miguel Corella from Korela Innovación, Juan Rodriguez García Independent Artist, Julie Conway from Illuminata, Dinorah Martinez from Manufactura and Luis Ignacio Santibañez Wood from Cocolab who will all be presenting in person.
There will also be a hive-mind think tank session featuring a panel made up of Victor Palacio, Liliana Gonzalez, Cristina Escofet, Bianca Gonzalez, Lorenzo Marla, Juan Carlos Yurritia and Gabriel Esquivel.
Main sponsors onboard are Gamechangers, Zeraus and Lux Led and Innovator Light House, also ALGO Studio and Rosadito as Renegades and partners include IES Mexico, IALD Mexico and WIL Mexico.
