Last night, I attended stand parties–unfortunately, most of the talk was about the transportation woes. As I understand it:
- Lufthansa is on strike today, 7 MAR, and tomorrow 8 MAR. The strike ends at 7:10 am Saturday, 9 Mar.
- Security staff at Frankfurt Airport is on strike until 10 pm tonight, the airport is effectively closed today
- Deutsche Bahn Trains are in the middle of a 35-hour strike, which ends 1pm Friday. restrictions until 1 p.m. Deutsche Bahn expects that the timetable will not return to normal until Saturday.
According to an article in EuroNews.Travel, 200,000 passengers are likely to be affected. Most last-minute train fares and one-way airfares have skyrocketed.
One solution: There is a Thursday midnight bus from Frankfurt to Paris on something called Blablabus and there are plenty of reasonably priced flights out of Paris.
