JOB TITLE: Product Design Manager

FLSA: Exempt

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Skokie, IL, On-site

SUPERVISOR:  Director of Design Development

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Product Design Manager is product development. The Product Design Manager will partner with the design partners, vendors, and internal to bring product to market. They will oversee the process from inspiration through sampling and to launch.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management
    • Ability to execute the overall brand objectives and strategies, ensuring all deliverables align and reinforce key brand attributes to drive brand equity in the long and short term.
    • Outstanding project management and overall organizational skills
    • Robust attention to the details without losing sight of the big picture.
    • Ability to respond quickly and change directions quickly. 
  • Design
    • Knowledge of construction and manufacturing techniques pertaining to lighting.
    • Proven outstanding design eye to elevate and refine product designs.
    • Passion for design and dedication to remaining current on lighting, design, and color trends.
    • Knowledge of lighting (decorative and functional) in residential and commercial applications, including experience with general principles of lighting installation.
    • Develop deep knowledge of the competitive marketplace and target audiences.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external designers to drive the best result from the creative process and ensure positive results on the brand.
  • Interpersonal Skills
    • Ability to effectively work and influence cross functionally with Marketing, Operations, and external/international partners & vendors.
    • Entrepreneurial attitude and approach to problem solving with a drive to exceed expectations.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with design partners by communicating project status, data driven information, and future needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in product development, product design, product management or engineering OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
  • 4 years of full-time experience in Product Development, Product Management, or Product Engineering.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-function team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of construction and manufacturing techniques pertaining to lighting.
  • Working knowledge of Product Information Management Software, specifically InRiver Software.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or AutoCAD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of The Lighting Industry.
