As a successful Manufacturing Engineer you will apply a structured methodology and lead change management activities. The Manufacturing Engineer is crucial in ensuring the long-term reliability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance of our lighting products. This role supports our ongoing manufacturing efforts, focusing on post-product development similar to sustaining engineer functions, and will work closely with various teams to maintain the high standards of our product offerings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, an analytical mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Lifecycle Management: Monitor and enhance the performance and reliability of existing products. Address and resolve issues related to product design, manufacturing processes, and material quality to extend product lifespan and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with the manufacturing team to refine production processes and troubleshoot issues on the shop floor. Develop and implement test protocols that ensure product quality and adherence to industry standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process enhancements. Implement changes that improve product quality, reduce production costs, and enhance product performance.
- Compliance and Documentation: Maintain compliance with industry regulations and standards, including safety and environmental guidelines. Prepare and update documentation required for product certifications and compliance audits.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams to coordinate and communicate changes and improvements. Support the teams in ensuring that designs are feasible and optimized for manufacturing.
- Technical Expertise and Guidance: Serve as a technical expert in the engineering team, providing insights and guidance on best practices in product sustainability and reliability. Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 4-7 years experience in Sustaining Engineering activities
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electromechanical, or other technical/analytical field.
- Lighting industry experience including familiarity with LEDs, PCBs, Drivers, Compliance (UL standards), Control Systems, thermal management simulation and testing.
- Advanced CAD skills, Onshape preferred, Solidworks or other.
- Detailed knowledge of raw materials and manufacturing processes (die-casting, extrusion, injection molding, etc) and surface treatments (powder coating, anodizing, etc).
- Proficiency in using hardware lab equipment.
- Strong analytical abilities are essential to identify and resolve issues that affect product sustainability and to make informed decisions on product improvements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and document processes and improvement
- Highly organized with ability to manage processes, timelines and workload for multiple projects.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, take initiative and embrace challenges.
