BUILD (Black United in Lighting & Design) is proud to highlight Tanya Hernandez, PE, for her significant contributions to the lighting industry. With a B.S. in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University, Tanya is a registered professional engineer and lighting certified (LC) with over 25 years of experience.
As the Vice President of Government & Industry Relations at Acuity Brands, Tanya plays a crucial role in shaping energy and environmental legislation, as well as influencing standards development. Her expertise also extends to certification at UL Solutions, where she has certified numerous lighting products and developed specifications for LED luminaires.
Tanya’s dedication to lighting is evident in her frequent presentations at major industry events, such as the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Annual Conference, LightFair International, and the World Energy Engineering Congress. She is a long-time active member of the IES, having served three terms as President of the Raleigh Section, and currently holds a second term as an at-large member of the IES Board of Directors. Additionally, Tanya is a past-Chair of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s (NEMA) Lighting System Division.
