Randy Reid sat down with Simon Slupik, CTO of Silvair, and Jim Sekinger, Head of Sales, North America, to discuss Silvair’s mission and innovations in lighting control technology.
Silvair’s Mission: Democratizing Lighting Controls
Silvair aims to make advanced lighting controls more accessible by offering flexible, scalable solutions to manufacturers. Slupik explained, “Our objective is to democratize the lighting control industry by enabling fixture and control system manufacturers to deploy networked lighting controls more quickly, easily, and cost-effectively.” With an engineering hub in Poland, Silvair leverages global standards, particularly Bluetooth NLC, to enhance interoperability in lighting control.
The Evolution of Bluetooth NLC
Bluetooth NLC (Network Lighting Control) marks a milestone in the development of lighting controls. Bluetooth Low Energy technology was first introduced in 2010, followed by Bluetooth mesh in 2017, which allowed for basic communication protocols. Now, Bluetooth NLC completes the “language” of Bluetooth, allowing devices to communicate seamlessly. Slupik, who also chairs the Bluetooth Mesh Working Group, noted, “With Bluetooth NLC, everyone can speak the same language, creating true global interoperability.”
Integrating Bluetooth Controls Across Systems
While the event focused mainly on lighting, HVAC integration remains a significant topic. Silvair envisions device-to-device Bluetooth integration that allows lighting and HVAC systems to communicate directly, sharing real-time data to enhance energy efficiency. “Device-to-device integration through Bluetooth NLC provides a standard way for components to share information, optimizing systems like lighting and HVAC for more energy savings,” Sekinger added.
NYControlled: A Key Platform for Industry Connections
For Silvair, NYControlled offers a valuable venue to engage directly with decision-makers across the lighting industry. Sekinger shared, “As a technology provider, we’re often one or two steps away from decision-makers. This event allows us to connect with specifiers, OEMs, and other key players to gain insights and feedback.”
Silvair’s commitment to accessibility and innovation is reshaping how lighting controls and IoT work together for a smarter, more sustainable future.
