DMF Lighting has an opening for a Product Designer with experience in new product development from initial concepts all the way through production. We are looking for a motivated and creative individual with excellent problem-solving skills and strong technical acumen. In this role, you will be responsible for multiple facets of design and development and will work with both internal and external teams to execute those designs. Job Description:
- Apply creative thinking and analysis to develop innovative new product concepts
- Assist in developing design specifications and validation plans
- Develop and iterate designs through sketches, renderings, 3D models and prototypes
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessment and initial testing
- Ensure that designs meet performance, reliability, cost and quality goals
- Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development
- Follow and refine the company product development process, conduct design reviews and interface with other departments to ensure an efficient transfer from concept to production
- Present design work to various decision-makers
- Ensure design integrity is maintained throughout the entire development process
- Help ensure that products are delivered within budgets and timelines
- Identify suitable manufacturing partners, source components and procure quotes
- Collaborate with Marketing in the development of support materials including catalogs, specification sheets, sample cases, trade show displays, etc.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of professional product design experience, ideally in lighting
- Industrial Design degree, or BSME
- Demonstrated success working in cross functional teams
- Must be able to visualize, create solid models, and design in 3D
- Strong mechanical skills with the ability to develop rapid prototypes
- Proficient in SolidWorks 2018 or later version, experience with rendering software a plus
- Ability to generate part prints, assembly drawings, and preliminary costed BOM’s
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Knowledge of the manufacturing processes used to produce parts for use in lighting fixtures: die-casting, injection molding, stamping, sheet metal fabrication, extruding and finishing
- Knowledge of optical design and understanding photometrics and photometric reports a plus
- Knowledge of UL 1598 a plus
- Proficient in the use of Photopia a plus
