Product Engineer | Chicagoland Area — PureEdge Lighting

Position reports directly to the President/Owner

Job Description:

The Product Engineer will collaborate with the owner in the design and product development of lighting fixtures.  PE will use Solidworks to create 3D models, use 3D printer for rapid prototyping, and create 2D drawings for manufacturing.  The ideal candidate will work closely with the Director of Engineering and Purchasing Department, to ensure correct part numbers are being used, current drawings are used for quoting from vendors, and production samples pass inspection.  This position is responsible for the engineering and quality control of our lighting fixtures so keen attention to detail is a must.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with owner to develop new light fixtures and maintain the old
  • Use SolidWorks and 3D printer to design and rapid prototype designs until approved for release
  • Use SolidWorks to develop 2D drawings for vendors for manufacturing
  • Work with Director of Engineering to approve 2D drawings
  • Work with Purchasing to send most current 2D drawings to vendors for quoting
  • Work with Purchasing to ensure pre-production prototypes are within tolerances and acceptable for production release
  • Works with Underwriters Laboratory to get the fixtures UL rated. Responsible for Quality Control of the lighting fixtures
  • Test fixtures to make sure they adhere to UL standards
  • Notify owner, Director of Engineering and Purchasing of any discovered product defects via e-mail and in person
  • Contributes to the team effort by assisting others as needed

Key Skills Required:

  • Must be familiar with SolidWorks
  • Technical knowledge of electrical and lighting products
  • Engineering degree with emphasis in electricity preferred
  • Knowledge of UL requirements essential
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with electrical and lighting products
