Product Features Breakthrough Heat Pipe Technology for High Ceiling Applications

GREENVILLE, S.C. – May 28, 2013 – Recognizing that high ceilings in large commercial and architectural spaces are very difficult to light, Prescolite has launched the industry’s first 12,000 lumen recessed LED downlight—the MegaLum.  The downlight is the perfect lighting upgrade for T4 quartz (up to 500 watts), metal halide (up to 250 watts) and induction (up to 165 watts) sources for ceiling heights of 40 to 60 feet.

Prescolite’s revolutionary 8-inch recessed LED downlight that features up to 75 lumens per watt efficacy and multiple configurations for design flexibility and controllability. The MegaLum is offered in four lumen output options: 3,000; 6,000; 9,000 and 12,000 lumens. The downlight is also available in 25-, 35-, 45- and 55-degree optical distributions; and 2,700K, 3,000K, 3,500K, 4,000K, and 5,000K color temperatures. The drivers are standard 0-10V dimmable, with 1 percent dimming options available, and hundreds of mid-power LEDs in the MegaLum create a smooth thermal profile and visually pleasing beam pattern.

To overcome the thermal management challenge of an extraordinarily high light output LED fixture, the MegaLum uses innovative heat pipe technology—traditionally used in computers, HVAC systems and solar products. The heat pipe transfers heat away from the LED driver at speeds more than ten times faster than conduction systems and represents a major breakthrough in high performance LED luminaire cooling.

Simplifying maintenance, the MegaLum driver and light engine are completely accessible from above or below the ceiling plane for simplified serviceability. Furthermore, the downlight is compatible with Hubbell Lighting’s Wi-HUBB system for expanded controllability benefits, and the luminaire’s beautifully spun and anodized reflectors are field interchangeable.
