Targetti L’Observatoire Showcase Catirpel in the City of Light

Last week, your humble editor attended one of the most memorable product presentations of my career. In the heart of Paris, at the historic Musée de Montmartre, Targetti and L’Observatoire International introduced their latest outdoor innovation—the Catirpel. The evening also celebrated Targetti France’s 50th anniversary, marking five decades of growth, craftsmanship, and innovation.

A Global Gathering

The event brought together Targetti teams from Italy, France, and the United States. It wasn’t just executives in attendance; staff members who contributed directly to Catirpel’s development also made the trip. Key leaders included Giovanni Bonazzi, CEO 3F Filippi, Targetti group, Nicola Bertini, General manager Targetti Sankey srl, Marie Paris, CEO of Targetti USA and Alain Arcamone, General Manager 3F Filippi, Targetti France.

A Warm Welcome Despite the Rain

As my wife Lori and I arrived, Marie Paris greeted us warmly. She set the tone for the evening, noting that despite a light rain, the IP66-rated Catirpel was built for this kind of weather. The light rain only added to the charm of the magical Montmartre gardens.

Catirpel Illuminates Montmartre

Throughout the gardens, Catirpel fixtures demonstrated their versatility in multiple applications. A dedicated team had worked tirelessly, some staying until 3 a.m., to ensure every fixture was perfectly installed for the evening’s showcase.

The Design Inspiration

In my exclusive on-site interview with Hervé Descottes, he explained the creative inspiration behind Catirpel. His team studied how caterpillars camouflage themselves in nature. That adaptability led to a fixture designed to blend into its environment during the day and deliver precise lighting at night. Descottes stressed the importance of fine-tuning in lighting design, where even a two-degree adjustment can change the entire effect.

Industry Leaders in Attendance

I also recognized several familiar faces from the U.S. lighting community. In attendance were Teal Brogden, President of HLB Lighting Design; Carrie Hawley, CEO of HLB Lighting Design; and Chip Israel, CEO and Founder of Lighting Design Alliance.

A Memorable Presentation

Congratulations to Targetti and L’Observatoire for delivering not only an impressive product but also an unforgettable experience in Paris.
