Lighting Industry Icon Joel Siegel Departs Edison Price Lighting After 30+ Years

After more than 30 years of service, Joel Siegel—an admired figure in the architectural lighting community—has departed Edison Price Lighting (EPL). Following the 2020 acquisition of EPL by Elite Lighting, Joel remained the final EPL employee before the acquisition. Now, he’s exploring new opportunities and is ready for his next chapter.

A Career Rooted in Integrity and Relationships

Joel’s influence in the lighting industry stretches across the country. However, his strongest connections are with the New York lighting design community, where he earned a reputation for honesty, expertise, and mentorship.

He began his career at Holophane at age 22, working as a draftsman. Despite being one of 26 applicants, he was chosen because, as he later recalled, “I was the only one who didn’t ask about the retirement plan.” That humility and drive would shape his long and respected career.

From Sales to Leadership

Joel eventually moved into sales and marketing roles, joining Lightolier as an Architectural Sales Specialist. Although he no longer served as Rich Shaver’s direct rep, the two remained in close contact. Rick often called Joel after sales meetings to get what he affectionately called “the real story.”

Their trusted partnership caught the attention of Edison Price. After hearing about Joel’s honesty and insight, Price said, “We should hire that friend of yours from Lightolier who only tells the truth.” Joel joined EPL as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 1983.

Recognized for a Lifetime of Excellence

In 2021, Joel received the EdisonReport Lifetime Achievement Award. Rich Shaver introduced him, highlighting their decades-long relationship and Joel’s reputation for transparency and mentorship.

During his acceptance speech, Joel thanked the many clients, reps, suppliers, and colleagues who supported him over the years. “My goal was to learn,” he said. “And the best source was my customers.”

With degrees in electrical engineering, physics, marketing, and finance, Joel brought a rare blend of technical and business skills to every role. He led with knowledge, humility, and unwavering honesty.

A Final Reflection and Next Steps

Reflecting on his career, Joel summed up his lighting philosophy with a single line: “The beauty of man-made space is created by lighting.”
