Light for LA Initiative Brings Equitable Lighting to Communities Rebuilding After Wildfires
In the aftermath of devastating wildfires that swept through Altadena and the Pacific Palisades, a new nonprofit is stepping up to help rebuild—one light at a time. Light Equity, a nonprofit dedicated to closing the access gap in lighting design, has launched Light for LA, its first major initiative aimed at empowering communities through equitable lighting solutions.
Lighting as a Tool for Equity and Recovery
“Lighting is more than just illumination,” says Nick Albert, Founder and Executive Director of Light Equity. “It’s about safety, wellness, dignity, and beauty. And access to it shouldn’t depend on your zip code.”
With that vision in mind, Light for LA is mobilizing the lighting industry to bring thoughtful, resilient lighting to communities rebuilding after the fires. The initiative focuses on both individual homes and neighborhood-wide efforts to create spaces that are safer, healthier, and more beautiful for residents.
What Light for LA Is Doing:
- Supporting fire-resilient housing by integrating quality lighting into new home designs with local nonprofit partners.
- Developing community lighting plans for neighborhoods rebuilding with modular and prefabricated homes.
- Creating easy-to-use resources to help residents, builders, and nonprofits make informed lighting decisions.
-
Driving long-term change through advocacy, partnerships, and community-led initiatives.
