NALMCO President-Elect Monica Kristo on Leadership and Growth

NALMCO President-Elect Monica Kristo

Monica Kristo on Leadership, Growth, and Giving Back at NALMCO

NALMCO President-Elect Monica Kristo shared insights into leadership, professional development, and community impact during an interview at the 72nd Annual NALMCO Convention & Trade Show in Des Moines, Iowa.

Stepping into the dual roles of Treasurer and President-Elect has given Kristo a deeper understanding of the organization’s operations. “I’ve learned a lot about balance sheets and financial statements,” she said. “It’s been a challenge, but I’m loving it.”

When asked about the biggest challenges facing contractors today, Kristo pointed to the ongoing issues with defective LED materials and supply-chain disruptions. “We’ve had difficulties with the new generation of LEDs,” she noted. “It’s something we continue to manage while adapting to rapid changes in technology.”

Kristo also highlighted NALMCO’s commitment to education through its certification programs, including CALT™, CSLT™, CLMC®, CLCP™, CLA, and three GUV certifications. These programs give technicians a solid foundation, she explained, especially those new to the industry who need to understand both LED and legacy lighting.

Looking ahead, Kristo emphasized organizational growth and community involvement. The Association is strong, with over 30 new members joining this year. The NALMCO Gives Back initiative is gaining traction, supporting causes like Milwaukee Public Schools and Des Moines’ Hope Ministries.

“Our members are like a big family,” Kristo said. “We help each other grow. That’s what makes NALMCO special.”

With continued expansion, new certifications, and a strong focus on supporting the communities that support the Association, NALMCO President-Elect Monica Kristo envisions a bright future for NALMCO and the lighting maintenance community it serves.
