Paul Marantz Celebration of Life: Save the Date for 29 January

The lighting and design community will gather on 29 January at 6:00 pm for a Paul Marantz Celebration of Life. The evening will honor the memory, creativity, and spirit of Paul Marantz, one of the industry’s most distinctive voices.

The event is being organized by FMS with support from DLFNY and the IES New York City Section. It will take place at Parsons/The New School in the Starr Foundation Hall, 63 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003. A formal announcement is still in progress. For now, organizers are sharing a save-the-date so colleagues and friends can plan to attend.

This gathering will not follow the tone of a traditional memorial. Instead, it will reflect who Paul truly was. He was brilliant, curious, and deeply creative. Just as important, he was fun. Paul brought warmth, humor, and generosity into every room he entered. The evening aims to capture that same spirit.

According to Hank Forrest, IALD IES LC LEED AP BD+C and Consulting Principal at FMS, the program will feature refreshments, video clips, and images from Paul’s life and career. In addition, friends and colleagues will share brief remarks and personal stories. These reflections will highlight both his professional impact and his human side. Together, they will paint a fuller picture of Paul as a designer, mentor, and friend.

Organizers hope the evening feels welcoming and relaxed. They want people to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate together. More details, including the full program and speakers, will follow in a formal announcement.

On 29 January, the community will come together for a Paul Marantz Celebration of Life—an evening that reflects a life well lived and deeply felt.
