At LEDucation 2026, I sat down with James Cadisch, founder of Phos Lighting, to discuss the company’s official launch in the United States and its broader global strategy.
A 150-Year Heritage in Metalwork
Cadisch explained that while Phos was founded 15 years ago, its foundation goes much deeper.
The company is built on a 150-year family heritage in metalworking, spanning both architectural and industrial applications. When LED technology began to emerge, the company saw an opportunity to apply its expertise in precision metalwork to lighting.
That background continues to shape Phos’s approach today, particularly in the design and finish of its fixtures.
Expanding Beyond the UK
Phos began in the UK market but has expanded significantly over the past several years.
Cadisch noted that the company now operates globally, with offices in India and Dubai, regional sales teams across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and a network of more than 40 distributors worldwide.
The U.S. launch represents the next major step in that expansion strategy.
Building a U.S. Distribution Network
To support its entry into the U.S., Phos has partnered with a Miami-based distributor that connects the brand to a broader network of representatives across the country.
Cadisch described the partnership as a strong alignment, emphasizing the importance of working with experienced industry professionals who understand the market and can help build brand awareness.
This structure allows Phos to integrate into the existing rep ecosystem while maintaining a focused distribution strategy.
A Flexible, Design-Driven Product Approach
At the core of Phos’s offering is a modular system designed to give lighting designers maximum flexibility.
The company provides a wide range of fixture types, including downlights, spotlights, track lighting, and linear systems. What sets the platform apart is its use of interchangeable components and customizable finishes.
Cadisch highlighted the ability to produce fixtures in materials such as brass, copper, and bronze, along with a variety of plated and coated finishes. Despite their small size, the fixtures are designed to deliver high performance and adapt to a wide range of applications.
Built-to-Order Manufacturing
Phos operates on a build-to-order model, with all metalwork and finishing completed locally in the UK.
While LED components are sourced globally, the company maintains tight control over fabrication and finishing processes. Products are configured through an online system and manufactured based on project specifications.
Lead times vary depending on finish, with standard options available more quickly and custom finishes requiring additional time.
Entering the U.S. Market
The company’s U.S. launch follows the completion of UL certification, a key milestone for entering the American market.
Cadisch noted that the launch marks an important moment for the brand as it brings its design philosophy and product platform to a new audience.
A Hands-On Approach to Growth
To support the expansion, Cadisch plans to relocate to the United States.
He explained that his approach has always been to immerse himself in new markets, building relationships and gaining firsthand understanding of how each region operates. By moving to Miami, he aims to establish a stronger presence and accelerate growth in the U.S.
Looking Ahead
As Phos Lighting enters the U.S., the company is focused on combining its heritage in metalwork with a flexible, modern lighting platform.
With a growing global footprint and a hands-on approach to market development, Phos is positioning itself to build momentum in a competitive and design-driven industry.
